Tower of Babel

Tower of Babel...Well...not really but it seemed like it looking down from the top. Could explain why I could not understand the crane operator! (There is a small pun there for people who know their biblical history!) This tower was originally part of the Ontario TVO network for rebroadcasting TVO content in isolated communities in Ontario. This tower came from a former community hall on the East side of Manitoulin Island.  I got it in several hundred pieces which i cleaned the rust and bird poop off after 30 years of exposure to the elements. Oh...did I mention it was slightly bent in places? The 10 tonne hydraulic press to the rescue. So this has been a 2 year project. I was hard to get a boom truck out here that had the reach to erect the tower but today was the day! I had lots of help and 2 hours later it was standing up and bolted down to the base. (5 cubic meters of reinforced concrete) So this tower is 72 feet high with an 8 foot mast to bring the total height to 80 feet. On top is a broad band commercial antenna that will do Ham radio, marine and fire dept frequencies. (144 to 170 mhz) And it provides a mount for the wireless Internet signal which is line of sight.

  1. Very impressive! Now you'll never have the excuse though that your Internet is unreliable! :-)
